ASEMUS: Top museum content 2011

This blog post shows the Asia-Europe Museum Network’s (ASEMUS) most shared content (via Facebook & Twitter) and the content which was most viewed on the website.

Currently the top 20 items  received between 100-500 Unique Visitors. This is considered low to moderate visibility. Working to increase content visibility should be a priority in 2012.

One limitation of this study is that the ASEMUS project only started using Google Analytics in July 2011.

Twitter: Asia Europe Museum Network

ASEMUS on Twitter

The Asia-Europe Museum Network on Twitter: @AsiaEUmuseums

A September 2011 review of the Twitter usage of  Asia-Europe Museum Network (ASEMUS) members found almost 50% were on Twitter. Museums seem to love Twitter! But many are just using it as a one-way communication stream. Only about 10 of the ASEMUS member institutions on Twitter have followed back.

The ASEMUS Twitter channel was launched in October 2011.

Twitter offers a way to collect all news broadcast by ASEMUS members into one real time information stream.

Rethinking the culture360.org blog network

culture360.org blog network

culture360.org blog network

The culture360.org blog network currently has 95 blogs. Most have just one post from the time they were registered, many never post. About 15% of the bloggers have posted more than three times. The 5% who do post more than three times have only done so for around three months.

Attempts to communicate and assist bloggers have not been beneficial in increasing the quality or extending the life of the blogs.

Below I will outline reasons for the situation above and offer ideas to grow the network in a sustainable and manageable way through:

  • Moderating blog creation
  • Identifying and inviting active bloggers to the culture360.org network
  • Outsourcing management of comments/SPAM for every blog

Mapping Museum Collections on Google Maps

ASEMUS on Google Maps

The research report below was written for the Asia-Europe Museum Network’s Mapping of Asian Collections Project. The project aims to use Google Maps to create an interface to map Asian museum collections in Asia and Europe.

  • enable us to communicate more effectively with technical partners;

RSS to email newsletters

MailChimp is an email marketing service which allows users to use email lists more effectively.

The culture360.org project produces one newsletter per month. It’s time consuming but very valuable in terms of marketing and brand development. RSS to email newsletters could provide a way for the project to extend its reach and impact with minimum effort.

culture360.org QR codes

culture360.org

QR codes are an up and coming marketing tool. During a recent visit to Korea I found them on buses,  posters, magazines, in restaurants and even a 5 foot one on a building. The codes are scanned by cameras in smart phones and, generally, have a link to website.

You can view a video from Japan below that shows QR codes in action.

Using a high tech device to scan a low tech QR code connects traditional marketing material, brochures, business cards etc, to the web. In a few seconds,  a user can connect online. Just make sure your site is mobile ready!
